Nicole Lucas Hall is a lucky mother to Asher and Winry Hall. She is a strong and brave mother, just like any good mother should be. Even though Nicole’s life may seem normal, she has a special mission – to appreciate and treasure her daughter Winry’s unique beauty. Winry, now 13 months old, was born with a birthmark covering almost a quarter of her face. This makes her even more special and unique, and Nicole wants to ensure she knows.
Nicole’s daughter had a unique birthmark that people had never seen before. People were confused and worried about her safety when they saw it.
The doctors reassured the parents that their baby’s birthmark, called congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN), was not dangerous. CMN is a rare condition that affects about 1 in 50,000 babies. They explained that the birthmark would mostly affect the appearance and any potential health risks would be similar to other nevi or moles.
Some people stare at or give mean looks to Winry in public. Since sharing her daughter’s story, Nicole has heard many bad things about her.
Nicole handled a difficult situation well. She told us that she and her husband tried to make their social media responses helpful by teaching people. This was because many of the bad comments they received were because of a need for more understanding. Nicole and her husband used humor to respond to mean and prejudiced comments online.
Winry’s brother, Asher, is the perfect protector for her. He is kind, supportive, and good-looking. Nicole says that Asher doesn’t think she is strange because of the birthmark on her face. He sees it as just another unique feature, like having blue eyes instead of brown. People who have heard about Winry’s story have also been incredibly generous towards her.
Asher, a young boy, may feel jealous when his mother, Nicole, spends time with Winry. But Nicole believes that as Asher ages, he will become a close friend and protector for Winry.
Nicole and her husband work daily to keep their children, Winry and her brother, safe and help them develop self-worth. They are especially worried about how others may judge Winry due to her unique talents and abilities. They express their concern by feeling anxious.
Nicole wants to teach Winry important values like being kind and caring. They want Winry to be happy and successful, so they teach her how to defend herself and compliment her good looks.
Nicole understands that her family will always protect and guide her daughter to people who will be nice and caring to her. The most important thing is that Winry knows she can always return to her family.
Nicole wants to help people learn about CMN (congenital melanocytic nevus) by using the internet. She wants to tell people about Winry’s condition and help parents teach their kids to accept and appreciate different people.
Although Winry’s birthmark is not common, Nicole told Bright Side that there are still many families who can relate to and learn from Winry’s story because of it.
The parents are very dedicated to ensuring their daughter’s happiness and will do everything possible to make her life easier. Nicole wants to break down myths about birthmarks and encourage acceptance. They hope that when their daughter Winry goes to new places and meets new people, she won’t have to answer many questions about her appearance. They hope this change will happen for their daughter and all children in similar situations.
