Experts recently found special cats living on Mount Everest. These cats are called Pallas cats or manuls. No one knew they were there until 2019. Two of them have been found near the mountain’s southern side. This is a significant discovery for scientists and people who care about the environment. It’s also incredibly adorable for everyone else.

Pallas’s cats, also known as manul cats, are similar in size to regular house cats. They have short legs and much soft, thick fur, making them look like cute stuffed animals. Despite their appearance, they are lighter than they look because their fur helps keep them warm. These wild cats live in areas like Mount Everest because they are good at climbing steep rocks and cliffs. They are beautiful to see, but they are not safe to keep as pets because they can be dangerous.

Dr. Tracie Seimon from the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Zoological Health Program says it’s incredible to find evidence of a rare and unique animal at the North Pole.

In the future, scientists will figure out exactly how many Pallas’s cats live on Mount Everest. This will also help keep them safe and healthy.
