Although it is against the law to have wild animals as pets in Brazil, Dindim has been visiting and staying with his best friend on the beaches of Brazil annually since 2011.
Retired bricklayer and part-time fisherman Joao Pereira de Souza, a 71-year-old man, discovered a South American Magellanic penguin named Dindim covered in oil and on the brink of death. Despite nursing him back to health, Dindim refused to leave De Souza’s care and continued to visit him annually. This unexpected return from Dindim came as a surprise to De Souza.
“I love the penguin like it’s my own baby and I think the penguin loves me too,” Joao said to Globo TV. “Nobody else can touch him or he will peck them. He sits on my lap, lets me give him showers, lets me feed him sardines, and lets me pick him up.” (h/t: independent)
